The CW released a photo of the hot, new cast — (from left) Dustin Milligan, AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Walter, Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds, Lori Loughlin, Ryan Eggold, Jessica Stroup and Michael Steger, but no Jennie Garth in sight, though the original Beverly Hills, 90210 star will be making special guest appearances as a guidance counselor on the spinoff.
The spinoff centers around Shenae Grimes’s character Annie Mills and her family’s move from Kansas to the world’s most famous zip code to be closer to Annie’s grandmother.

I personally preferred the original cast and show. Why create a spin off and mess with an organic, genuine thing. Sure Rhoda and The Jeffersons and Frasier where hits.
More often than not they don't make it.
The way i see it, we lose Ugly Betty to NYC and get this show. So maybe some of those (over 100 lost jobs) can be absorbed by this production.

Nowadays production costs are high.
As an example:
10 episodes of a reality show can run about $7 million or $700,000 an episode.
22 episodes of a one hour scripted prime time show can run about $50 million or $2.27 million an episode.
If you look closely at the picture above you will notice that one main cast member is missing and was cropped out from the picture. That was Andrea(Gabrielle Carteris) who was in her late 20's playing a high school kid.
Beverly HIlls 90210 ran for 10 seasons on the FOX network from 1990 to 2000
This teen soap opera was a major television hit. Except for the last couple seasons where it kind of over stayed its welcome.
Premiered on October 04, 1990
Finale was on May 07, 2000
292 episodes.
The funny thing is that the spin off might actually have a shot at succeeding. Lori Laughlin being the cast exception, since she's never really been able to "carry" a show of her own.
The 90210 spin-off has a 13 episode order. It will premiere in the fall 2008 season ( august,september or october)
It will be shot in Los Angeles as was the original ( well LA county, because they used a warehouse in Van Nuys,CA)
